Reboletti Frustrated at Lack of Budget Negotiations
June 19,
2007
Springfield …
“To end session on May 31st without a budget is an embarrassment for the
Democrat Speaker, Democrat Senate President and Democrat Governor. They had
five months to hammer out a budget and yet they couldn’t even find the time
to meet more than five times in Springfield,” State Representative Dennis
Reboletti (R-Elmhurst) said.
Reboletti stated that the House Republicans had proposed a state budget
before the May adjournment. This balanced budget which does not increase
taxes would include a $5 billion capitol program to meet our current pension
obligation, create new jobs and invest in education, roads, and mass
transit. Funding for this capitol program would come from a projected $750
million in new revenue growth and increased slots in existing gaming
operations.
“The Democrats hold every elected office in this State and yet there is a
severe lack of leadership in their party,” Reboletti said. “It is extremely
frustrating to have Governor Blagojevich comment that the members should
work a full work week when he’s only been to Springfield a handful of times
during session. On top of that, the few times he’s in Springfield he never
spends the night and flies back to Chicago. That means that the state plane
has to make an extra trip to take the Governor back to Chicago. This is just
an additional expense that our state doesn’t need.”
