Reboletti Hosts Gross Receipts Tax Forum
April 24,
2007
Springfield, IL
… On Monday, April 30th State Representatives Dennis Reboletti will host a
forum on the Governor’s proposed gross receipts tax (GRT). The gross
receipts tax is an estimated $7 billion tax increase and is the largest tax
increase in the history of the State of Illinois.
“The Governor has called this the “tax fairness plan” but there is nothing
fair about it. Not only does he hurt the larger businesses that provide good
paying jobs, but he also hurts small business,” Reboletti said. “The local
hairstylist who might not make $2 million in gross revenue will more than
likely be purchasing equipment and products from a company that will be
affected by this tax. Not only will that local hairstylist have to pay more
for her products and equipment but to stay in business she will have to pass
along some of the cost to the consumer. This trickle down effect hurts
everyone including those middle class families that the Governor says he’s
trying to protect.”
Reboletti added that the gross receipts tax would add two additional tax
brackets. The first tax bracket would add a 1.95% tax on all service
providers with gross revenue over $2 million. The second tax bracket would
attach a 0.85% tax on farmers, mines, manufacturers, construction firms,
wholesale & retail service providers.
Additional speakers include Doug
Whitley, President of the Illinois Chamber of Commerce and Joe Calomino,
State Director of Americans for Prosperity.
Media is welcome to attend this event.
